-
Publishing resources on Computers, Data Processing, Automated Education and now AI has given us an in-depth understanding of technical advances and a long-time view of its progress.
-
We gained valuable experience in reprinting over 5,000 previously published books using different printing methods, from offset printing to electrostatic printing to xerography and finally scanning and digitizing.
-
Publishing encyclopedias and dictionaries has given us insight on how to condense information into concise knowledge.

Most ideas do not come out of nowhere - they are published in books, and subsequent generations build upon them. Many authors record the past, interpret the present, and offer insights into the future.
American Data Processing, Inc. published such an insight almost 70 years ago in the following book:
On-Line Computing Systems edited by Eric Burges
Chapter 1 – The Future of Online Systems by Ivan Sutherland
Chapter Summary:
In 1965 Dr. Ivan Sutherland offered analysts of the state of the art of “online systems” and insights into the future of online systems databases. He states that if you could enter the entire content of the Library of Congress into a database that you could have a resource with were we can ask questions and get answers as well as “asking questions of Human Beings.”
That this Library of Congress Database “will be most useful when it “understands” the information formation stored in it” and “will become more and more able to understand and correlate the facts”.
The computer with the LC Database will be able to “mulls over facts to understand the implications of them and try to understand them and try to come to new conclusions.”

Dr. Sutherland poses the following questions about future in 1965:
-
“How about a computer that could prove mathematical Theorems all by itself”.
-
“Suppose we finally write a computer program which is able to write computer programs.”
-
“Suppose we could state our problems to a computer able to program it would solve the problems.”
In this very insightful chapter, he also discusses the computers relationship with Human Beings and society, its relationship with “work” in theoretical, practical, and philosophical future terms.
Dr. Ivan Sutherland American computer scientist and Internet pioneer, widely regarded as the "father of computer graphics.”
1965, Director for Information Processing Techniques, Advance Research Projects Agency, Department of Defense, The Pentagon, Washington D.C.
